1.0 Timeline of Objectives for Degrees



1.1 Timeline for M.S.

To stay on schedule, the Master of Science student should complete these objectives within the time given. See the page referenced for additional information. Required forms are available on the Graduate School website, http://www.utah.edu/graduate_school/. For specific deadline dates in any semester, see the Master Program and thesis calendars on the Graduate School website.

Attend at least 75% of all graduate seminars for the entire academic year. Credit is based on attendance for the full yearRegister one semester per year, for two years
Submit a semester research report to receive a grade for thesis researchEach semester when registered for Met.E. 6970

Get "Supervisory Committee Approval" signedAt defense
After Defense (Final Oral Examination) and/or Semester of Graduation
Make changes in thesis required by Supervisory Committee. Get "Final Reading Approval" signed
Submit one copy of defended, committee-approved thesis manuscript to the Thesis Editor for approvalSix to eight weeks before the last day of finals
Make changes in thesis required by Thesis Editor
Submit "Report of the Final Oral Examination and Thesis for the Master's Degree" to Graduate RecordsFour weeks before the last day of finals in semester of graduation
Check with the Graduate Records Office that all documentation has been submitted
Submit three complete, duplicated copies of the thesis or dissertation to the Thesis EditorApproximately ten working days before the last day of finals
Submit "Thesis Release" (Graduation Release) and "Supervisory Committee Approval" to Graduate Records OfficeBefore the registrar's closing date for the semester (the last day of final examinations)
To change to the Ph.D. program, submit "Recommendation for Change of Graduate Classification" to Graduate Records

Properly dispose of chemicals and samples, give laboratory notebooks to advisor, return keys and library books, and provide a forwarding address to the department officeBefore leaving the university
