Registration- How do I get a withheld class number?
- Withheld class numbers are posted before each semester on the left side of the coat closet, between the department office doors.
- How do I get credit for seminar?
- Register either Fall or Spring semester each year. Attend 75% of (or a maximum of 22) seminars during both Fall and Spring semester. That's right, you must attend seminar during the semester you are not registered!
Make sure you sign the roll at each seminar you attend. If registered for Fall, you will receive a 'T' grade on your report card. You will receive your grade (Cr/NC) at the end of Spring semester. Seminars during the summer count for extra credit for the following academic year. Masters students need two years, or one full semester credit hour, of seminar(at 1/2 credit each). PhD students need three years or 1-1/2 semester credit hours.

Students are required to pay a key deposit of $5 for each key requested. Pay this at the Cashier window in the Student Services Building (north end of the first floor). Take the receipt to the department office. This deposit is refunded if you return your keys when you leave the university.To fill out a key request, the department office will need (a) your name, (b) your university ID number, (c) the key deposit receipt if you are a student, and (d) what keys you need. Fill in your name, the company you want to buy the supplies from, and what you want to buy (catalog numbers, description, price), and get your supervisor's signature. If a shipping preference is not given, standard ground shipping will be used. The state has contracts with VWR and Fisher Scientific, so it is usually cheaper to order from those companies. Ask the department office how to check contract pricing online. Return all invoices or receipts to the department office. How do I order a printer cartridge? Provide the department office with the number from the cartridge. You don't need to find a vendor. The department office will order it from their usual office supplier. Give the empty cartridge to the department office for recycling, along with all packaging (particularly the return shipping label). How do I buy something from the physics stockroom? Either: - Register online to make purchases (ask other students how this is done). This is the easiest way.

Others were assigned in extremely broad categories as books were received, so these call numbers are not by subject.Check the library index either online or in the library cardfile and notebook. You are permitted to choose your own number. The number will be five digits long, with the first digit being a '5'. To avoid duplications, restrictions on number selection include year of birth (no numbers between 1950 and the current year), repeated numbers (e.g., not 3333), numbers in sequence (e.g., not 2345), and phone extensions (e.g., not 8684). If you forget your number, ask the department staff for it. The department staff will give you a brief tutorial on how to operate the copy machine.How can I use the fax machine? Write the fax number you are calling in the fax log book. This is necessary for all calls except local or toll-free. You must write down directory assistance calls, because there is a charge for directory assistance. Fax cover sheets or fax sticky notes for the receiver's name are available. You may supply your own cover sheet if preferred.Insert your fax face down, top first, in the slot above the keypad. You may insert six to eight pages at a time. To fax to a university extension, dial the last five digits of the number. For local calls (within the Salt Lake Valley), dial 9 then the ten-digit fax number. For long distance within the U.S. or Canada, dial 9-1, the area code, and the fax number. For other countries, dial 9-011, then the country code and fax number. Check the number in the display.
