Accreditation
At our last review, in June 2003, the Department of Metallurgical Engineering received a full six-year accreditation from ABET, Inc. (formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology). The reviewers wrote that our undergraduate program “is unique in its horizontal integration of all areas of its field,” and “has an admirable sequence of courses that allows students to gain significant experience with engineering design in the context of materials and metals.” ABET requires the department to collect information both from bachelors students that have graduated from the department and from their employers to evaluate the effectiveness of our program.

Hot Rolling
Hot- and coldrolling are critical metallurgical processes in delivering high-quality metals automotive and appliance industries. Line speeds during rolling can reach more than fifty miles per hour. The control of temperature and pressure are very important in controlling the thickness and metallurgical properties of the final product.
